According to Norway, the WTO prohibits American import taxes on steel and aluminum.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that a World Trade Organization tribunal had decided in favor of Norway against the United States in a lawsuit the Nordic nation had taken about American import taxes imposed in 2018 on steel and aluminum.

The Norwegian ministry issued a statement stating that "the WTO panel's assessment, which was released today, indicates that the U.S. tax on steel and aluminum was in violation of the WTO regulations."

The tariffs were enacted in March 2018 by then-President Donald Trump, who eventually exempted several allies. Norway, a significant producer of aluminum, was among those affected.

Similar complaints have been lodged with the WTO by a number of members, including the European Union, China, India, Russia, Switzerland, and Turkey. Around the year's conclusion, the decisions are anticipated to be made.
